Description

RC-01 – LUCAS INLINE RESIDUAL CHECK VALVE (5/16″ PORT)

PART NUMBER(S):
Fleet Products: RC-01 (New/Remanufactured) | OE: Lucas Girling RC-01, RRH01K

DESCRIPTION:
Model: Inline Residual Check Valve – 5/16″ Port (Lucas Girling Style)
Vehicles: Ford LN/FT trucks, Freightliner medium-duty trucks, and commercial buses using Lucas Girling hydraulic brake systems

• Maintains 3–10 psi to reduce seal leakage.
• Installs inline between the master cylinder and the rear “T” fitting.
• Steel or brass housing with corrosion-resistant finish.
• Supports service and parking brake hydraulic functions.
• Applies constant low pressure to the adjuster and cylinder seals.
• Works whether the vehicle is running or parked.
• Helps extend the life of backing plate assemblies by preventing seal collapse.
• Prevents excessive leakage by keeping seals seated firmly.
• Intended only for Lucas Girling-type hydraulic brake systems.

Applications:
Is this residual check valve right for your vehicle? Yes. It is built for Lucas Girling systems found on Ford, Freightliner, and many bus platforms. It keeps 3–10 psi in the brake line to support seal pressure and reduce leakage. Works parked or running. Some leakage is acceptable in this system. Some external moisture is normal for this system.

Designed for use with Lucas Girling adjuster/expander cylinders (201179X, 201183X, 201180X, 201184X) RH201183, RH201183X, RH201184, RH201184X, RH201180, RH201180X, RH201179, RH201179X

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTES:

✔ Install inline between the master cylinder and the rear brake circuit “T” fitting.
✔ Use only on Lucas Girling drum brake systems with adjuster/expander cylinders.
✔ Maintains 3–10 psi residual pressure to keep seals seated without causing brake drag.
✔ Confirm the correct hydraulic fluid type; do not use the wrong brake fluid.
✔ Check flow direction — arrow must point toward the rear wheel to avoid brake lock-up.
✔ Replace the valve if you notice leakage or poor pressure retention.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Locate the brake line union behind the cab.
  • Remove the union and install the RC-01 valve.
  • Ensure the arrow points toward the rear wheel (direction of fluid flow).
  • Cut and re-flare the line if needed to fit the new valve.
  • Pump the brake pedal and bleed the rear brakes until fluid runs clean.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

  • Before reconnecting the brake line to the backing plate, fill the master cylinder and flush all dirty brake fluid.
  • Reattach the line only when the fluid is fully clean.
  • Bleed both rear brakes.
  • Units will self-adjust.
